Edge-IO-Link-Master, computing power, and centrally managed services for the field level

The SensorEdge serves as an IO-Link master featuring standardized IO-Link sensor connections, along with computing power and an Ethernet interface. It enables direct connection of IO-Link sensors to Ethernet-based IT infrastructure without necessitating intervention in existing communication networks or controllers. Unlike traditional IO-Link master devices, the SensorEdge can transmit IO-Link sensor data directly into IT-based networks.

Built upon a LINUX OS compliant with aspects of IEC62443, the module ensures secure installation and operation of application software encapsulated via container technology. Configuration and management can be done either locally through a web interface or centrally via a platform. Hilscher also provides a centralized edge management platform for local or internet-based administration of the devices.

SensorEDGE is available in 2 versions:

  • SensorEDGE FIELD: An IO-Link master featuring an open computing platform for custom software, with optional centralized management.
  • SensorEDGE: An IO-Link master combined with remote transmission of sensor data via a central off-the-shelf platform.

SensorEDGE

sensorEDGE is a ready-to-use solution for transmitting local IO-Link sensor data to the cloud.

  • Remote Data Access: Data can be forwarded to any application for value-added processing.

Benefits

  • Edge Processing Power: Devices can execute demanding container applications, ensuring that data is not merely collected but also processed at the field level, providing a significant advantage.
  • Containerized Software: Applications are encapsulated into individual containers using open yet secure container technology.
  • Cloud Agnostic: Users have the freedom to choose whether they want the solution to communicate with a local cloud or with a public cloud via the internet.
  • Operation Without Internet Connection: sensorEDGE FIELD can operate in local installations without requiring an internet connection.
  • Optional Centralized Management: Users have the option of utilizing centralized management through Hilscher’s netFIELD IIoT platform.

Description

sensorEDGE transfers local IO-Link sensor data to remote MQTT clients. The solution comprises an IP67-rated device equipped with IO-Link sockets. Simply connect to a power source and internet, eliminating the need for time-consuming setup. Once sensors are connected and automatically configured via the IODD from an online file database, the sensor box transmits data to the cloud at 1-second intervals.

Description

sensorEDGE FIELD offers users extensive customization options tailored to their specific needs. The device features two container engines: one for local and manual deployment of container applications, and another for interaction with a central management platform. Equipped with a preinstalled Linux operating system, users have the flexibility to choose which containerized software to run on the devices. A variety of free basic containers provide features for IO-Link configuration and IO-Link on MQTT data provisioning. Optional centralized device management through a single platform is available upon request.
