Memory cards for S7-1200, S7-1500 and S7-300
Helmholz memory cards store the PLC program of your S7 controller: a compatible alternative to the original card at a lower purchasing cost. They come in every common capacity, including the 256 kB and 1 MB micro memory cards, and are built for the control cabinet: 0 to +60 °C in operation.
Selection
Which card fits your CPU?
The CPU family decides the card: S7-1200 and S7-1500 take the memory card, S7-300 CPUs take the micro memory card. Then choose the capacity that fits your project.
Memory cards for S7-1200 and S7-1500
For CPU 1200, CPU 1500 and ET 200 CPUs. 24 x 32 x 2.1 mm.
Micro memory cards for S7-300
For CPU 312 C to 314 C, CPU 312 to 317, IM 151, IM 153, IM 154 and CPU C7.
Background
Choosing the capacity
- Usable capacity. The card controller and the file system reserve part of the memory, so the usable size is a little below the nominal size. If your project is close to the limit, take the next size up.
- Files written by the program. Recipes, data logs and other files that the program writes count against the write/delete cycles of the card. The 4, 12 and 24 MB memory cards are rated for the most cycles per memory block, so for frequent writing they give the most headroom.

CAN and CANopen for S7-300
The CAN 300 PRO connects CAN devices directly to an S7-300. It plugs into the central or expansion rack and works in CAN Layer 2 with 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers, as CANopen master or as CANopen slave, from 10 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s.
CAN 300 PRO
700-600-CAN12. 16 freely programmable timers, USB for parameterization and diagnostics, −25 to +60 °C. An optional micro memory card stores the project for a quick module swap.
Handling blocks for CAN
800-600-1AA11. CANParam configuration tool and handling blocks for Layer 2, CANopen and SAE J1939, for STEP 7 and TIA Portal. Needed for the first use of the CAN 300 PRO.
CAN bus
PN/CAN gateway for S7-1200 and S7-1500
CANopen, CAN Layer 2 and SAE J1939 on any PROFINET controller, configured via GSDML.

Programming adapters for S7-200, S7-300 and S7-400
The NETLink PRO Compact plugs onto the MPI or PROFIBUS port of an S7 controller and makes it reachable via Ethernet for programming, visualization and remote maintenance, with all common S7 engineering tools.
NETLink® PRO Compact
700-884-MPI21. MPI, PPI and PROFIBUS up to 12 Mbit/s, up to 16 TCP and 32 MPI/PROFIBUS connections, switchable PLC write protection. Powered by the CPU or by 24 V DC.
Remote access
REX 250 with MPI/PROFIBUS
Remote maintenance for S7 controllers on MPI or PROFIBUS via the myREX24 V2 portal, over WAN, LTE or WiFi.
Mounting rails for S7-1500

Memory cards
Which memory card fits my S7 CPU?
For S7-1200 and S7-1500 CPUs, choose the Helmholz memory card 700-954-8Lx04 in 4 MB, 12 MB, 24 MB, 256 MB or 2 GB. For S7-300 CPUs (CPU 312 C to 314 C and CPU 312 to 317), IM 151, IM 153, IM 154 and CPU C7, choose the micro memory card 700-953-8Lxx31 from 64 kB to 8 MB.
Which capacity do I need?
At least the size of your project, with some margin. The card controller and the file system reserve part of the memory, so the usable capacity is a little below the nominal size. If the program also writes recipes or data logs to the card, choose a size with room for those files as well.
How often can I write to the card?
The 4, 12 and 24 MB memory cards for S7-1200 and S7-1500 are rated for at least 500,000 write/delete cycles per memory block, the 256 MB card for 250,000 and the 2 GB card for 120,000. Data is retained for at least 10 years after the last programming below 50,000 write cycles, and for at least 1 year above 450,000.
At which temperatures can I use the memory cards?
In operation from 0 to +60 °C, and from −40 to +85 °C for transport and storage, at up to 95 % relative humidity without condensation.
Which order numbers replace 700-954-8Lx03?
The memory cards for S7-1200 and S7-1500 now have order numbers ending in 04, for example 700-954-8LE04 for 12 MB. They replace the former numbers ending in 03.
CAN and programming adapters
Can I use the CAN 300 PRO in an S7-1200 or S7-1500?
The CAN 300 PRO is made for the S7-300 rack. For S7-1200, S7-1500 and other PROFINET controllers, the PN/CAN gateway SLIM or FLAT connects CANopen, CAN Layer 2 and SAE J1939 devices, configured completely via GSDML without handling blocks.
Do I need handling blocks for the CAN 300 PRO?
Yes, for the first use. The package 800-600-1AA11 contains the CANParam configuration tool and the handling blocks for Layer 2, CANopen and SAE J1939, for STEP 7 and TIA Portal.
How do I program an S7-300 via Ethernet?
Plug the NETLink PRO Compact onto the MPI or PROFIBUS port of the CPU and connect it to your network with a standard Ethernet cable. It handles MPI, PPI and PROFIBUS up to 12 Mbit/s, takes its power from the CPU or from 24 V DC, and works with all common S7 engineering tools via the NETLink-S7-NET driver.
Can I reach an S7 on MPI or PROFIBUS remotely?
Yes, with the REX 250 industrial router. It has an MPI/PROFIBUS interface up to 12 Mbit/s and connects to the myREX24 V2 portal via WAN, LTE or WiFi over an encrypted VPN tunnel.
