Bus couplers
Choose the bus coupler by the fieldbus of your PLC; the I/O modules behind it are the same for every coupler. The PROFINET coupler is Conformance Class C with MRP, has a 2-port switch and handles up to 63 modules with 340 bytes of I/O data.
TB20 bus coupler

One coupler per station, with USB for the TB20 ToolBox.
PROFINET
Cables, connectors and switches
Cables, connectors and switches for the PROFINET network around the coupler.

Digital I/O modules
Digital input, output and mix modules for DC 24 V and AC 230 V, with 2 to 16 channels per module.
Digital inputs

DI, DC 24 V
The standard input module for 24 V signals.

DI, DC 24 V, 3-wire
Sensor supply and signal on the front connector, so 3-wire sensors connect directly.

DI, DC 24 V, GND reading
For sinking signals, so existing machines move to a new PLC without rewiring.
DI, AC 230 V
Reads 230 V signals directly, with a separate N per channel (type 1).
Digital outputs and mix modules
DO, DC 24 V, 500 mA
The standard output module for valves, lamps and relays.

DO, DC 24 V, 700 mA, Highfeature
Highfeature outputs with 700 mA per channel.

DO, DC 24 V, 300 mA, sink
Sinking outputs, the counterpart of the GND-reading inputs.

DO, DC 24 V, 2 A
For larger loads such as motor brakes and heavier valves.
DO, relay, 5 A, AC 230 V
Changeover contacts for 230 V loads and potential-free switching; the switching counter shows in time when a relay is due for replacement.

DIO, DC 24 V, 500 mA
Inputs and outputs in one module, for compact stations.
Analog I/O modules
Analog inputs for current, voltage, RTD and thermocouples, and analog outputs for current and voltage, with 12 or 16 bit resolution.
Analog inputs

AI, current, 12 bit
0/4–20 mA and ±20 mA for standard transmitters.

AI, current, 16 bit, isolated
0/4–20 mA and ±20 mA with isolated channels and 16 bit resolution.

AI, voltage, 12 bit
±10 V, 0–10 V and 1–5 V for standard signals.

AI, voltage, 16 bit, isolated
0–10 V, 1–5 V, ±10 V, ±5 V and ±2.5 V per channel, with channels isolated from each other and 15 bit + sign.

AI, voltage, ±24 V, 12 bit
600-252-4CD01. 4 inputs for 0–24 V and ±24 V, for example to measure supply voltages.

AI, RTD, 16 bit
Pt100, Pt1000, Ni100, Ni1000, LG-Ni1000 and 150 to 6000 Ω; the Pt100 climate range resolves two decimal places.

AI, thermocouple, 16 bit, isolated
Thermocouple inputs with 16 bit resolution and isolated inputs.
Analog outputs

AO, current, 12 bit
0/4–20 mA for positioners and drives.

AO, voltage, 12 bit
±10 V, 0–10 V and 1–5 V for frequency converters and valves.
Function modules
For signals the PLC cycle cannot follow and for measurements that need their own processing: counting, position, energy and weight.

Counter, 32 bit
Counts pulses faster than the PLC cycle, for example from incremental encoders.

Counter Economy, 24 V, 1 kHz
Several 32 bit counters in one module for slower pulses, such as flow meters.

SSI encoder interface
600-320-7AA01. Absolute position from linear and rotary SSI encoders, for example on linear motors.

Energy meter
Records current, voltage and energy values of AC 230 V networks in the PLC, for energy monitoring and peak shaving.

Strain gauge weighing module
600-256-7AA01. Connects a load cell in full bridge directly, for weight, force or torque, for example to monitor filling quantities.
System modules
Power supply, segmentation and extra terminals for the power bus of the station.

Potential distributors
Extra terminals for 24 V, GND or AUX, up to 8 A. The Highfeature version monitors the supply of transmitters and 3-wire sensors and reports a fault to the PLC.

Power modules
Start a new segment of the power bus, for example for outputs on their own 24 V supply.
- Power and isolation, 8 A · 600-710-0AA01
- Power module DC 24 V · 600-700-0AA01

Planning and configuration
Which fieldbuses does TB20 support?
PROFINET (600-180-1AA11), PROFIBUS DP (600-151-1AA11), EtherCAT (600-185-1AA11), EtherNet/IP (600-175-1AA11), Modbus/TCP (600-170-1AA11), CANopen (600-160-1AA11) and DeviceNet (600-165-1AA11). The I/O modules are the same behind every coupler, so one I/O level serves machines with different PLCs.
How many modules fit on one PROFINET coupler?
Up to 63 peripheral modules with 340 bytes of I/O data. The coupler supplies the modules with 5 V and up to 2.5 A; the TB20 ToolBox checks this current budget while you plan.
Do I need the TB20 ToolBox?
The ToolBox is free and optional. You integrate the coupler in your PLC with its description file, such as the GSDML for PROFINET. The ToolBox adds planning, label printing, documentation, live diagnostics over USB and an I/O check without PLC.
Which PROFINET features does the coupler support?
Conformance Class C with IRT, Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP), two ports with an integrated switch at 100 Mbit/s, topology detection via LLDP, I&M data and a minimum cycle time of 250 µs.
Can I retrofit existing machines with TB20?
Yes. GND-reading digital inputs (600-210-0DH01 and 0DP21) read sinking signals, so an existing machine moves to a new PLC and fieldbus without rewiring the sensors.
Operation and maintenance
Can I replace a module during operation?
Yes. TB20 modules are hot-swappable: you replace an electronics module while the rest of the station keeps running, and the coupler recognises the modules connected to it.
What is included with an I/O module?
Each module is delivered as one pre-assembled unit: electronics module, base module and front connector. Click it onto the DIN rail and start wiring. Spare base modules and front connectors come in sets of five.
Can I test the wiring without a PLC?
Yes. In simulation mode the TB20 ToolBox reads inputs and writes outputs over the USB port of the coupler, so you check the wiring before the machine is delivered.
Which ambient conditions does TB20 handle?
0 to +60 °C operating temperature, −20 to +80 °C for transport and storage, up to 95 % relative humidity without condensation, IP20, CE and UL. For UL the PROFINET coupler is rated for up to +50 °C surrounding air.
